![]() Maricarmen Valdivieso
With a law degree from the Universidad de Piura, Maricarmen has devoted most of her professional life to defending human rights and promoting civil participation and social development in Peru. As a student, she joined the Universidad de Piura’s team for the Sixth Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition at American University in Washington D.C. Since 2003, she has worked in human rights and development projects in Cuzco and Piura for NGOs and the Ombudsman office. Maricarmen has also taught Corporate Social Responsibility for undergraduate and graduate students at the Instituto San Ignacio de Loyola. Currently, she writes articles for ‘El Tiempo’ and is still passionate about development and addressing problems of inequality in Peru.Executive Director ![]()
Jean-Gabriel Tarassenko
JG is from the United Kingdom and first came to Urubamba as a volunteer in April 2009 for three months whilst still at the University of Surrey, working for NeVo on an environmental project. He immediately fell in love with the town and its people and is taking over as Project Coordinator in Urubamba beginning January 2011. JG is passionate about strengthening the relationships between the locals of Urubamba, its various institutions and the NeVo volunteers and making new ones. He believes that the different groups of people working in Urubamba can make a social impact by pooling together their limited resources and combined experience. In his spare time, JG is an obsessive music fan of all genres and is happy to jam with anyone.

Ronny was born in South Africa and moved to Israel when he was 9. He has spent the last 10 years in Canada where he completed his Masters in International Affairs at Carleton University. Ronny came to NeVo as an intern in July 2011 and assisted with various different projects. In 2012, Ronny has started his new position as Project Manager for NeVo.
Project Coordinator Ronny has developed sensitivity, appreciation, and knowledge of other cultures/religions through travelling in 35 countries (16 of which are considered developing). Ronny’s passion for international development has lead him to work for NGOs such as Room to Read, SalvAide, CANADEM, and the Mother Teresa Centre in India as well as the Government of Canada’s International Development Agency. ![]()
MariaJosé Aguilera
Mariajosé began her work with NeVo in 2009 as a volunteer on the community development project in Media Luna. She was a NeVo ambassador in Montreal afterwards and is now Program Coordinator at the NeVo office in Lima. She is responsible for informing potential volunteers and designing customized, strategic programs for them. Mariajosé's Nicaraguan background has greatly influenced her desire to work in pursuit of social development in Latin America. Claudia Leon
Claudia originally studied Hotel and Restaurant Management in Montemar, in Lima. She found interacting with people and providing good service very appealing, and last but not least she found cooking for family and friends to be very fulfilling. Also she noticed that making a guest feel at home is very important and that taking care of the details is what makes the difference.Administrative Assistant Bachelor in Culinary Arts from the California Culinary Academy, San Francisco California. Bachelor in Business Administration from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and Postgraduate Certificate Program in Tourism Development at Niagara College, Canada. Maria Isabel is an administrator with working experience in international settings. While in Canada she worked as International Project Specialist and was part of a team in a development project for a local community in Arequipa, Peru. She was also a volunteer for the Ministry of Tourism in Ontario, Canada. Her professional background in the private sector includes companies in the mining and telecommunication fields as well as valuable experience in banking and education organizations. Yovana Guillen Caviedes
Yovanna began working in the tourist restaurant Casagrande, in Paclamallo, for several years, cooking and cleaning. Currently, she works with Nexos Voluntarios to maintain the house and the kitchen, and has been working with us since 2008.
