In many Urubamba schools, learning English is considered important despite the fact that local teachers often lack knowledge about how to teach it effectively. Tourism is one of the biggest industries in Peru, and is an especially important economic force in the Cusco region, where Urubamba is located. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to provide quality ESL instruction to the students by developing creative lessons and leading classes at local schools and in this way help to empower them with an invaluable tool for the future. Come teach English as a volunteer in Peru, and make a difference in the lives of the country’s most disadvantaged citizens.

"Kuychi Wasi"
Better Nutrition, Brighter Future
Design a strategy to improve nutrition for students of Urubamba-region grade schools, with the goal increasing their mental ability and enabling them to have and improved educational experience as well as better overall health.
Kuychi Wasi is a combined nutrition/education initiative that depends on volunteer support and attempts to address malnutrition as a factor contributing to low educational levels in Urubamba, Peru. Malnutrition inhibits optimal mental development and a productive educational experience, which, in a country like Peru where education is poor anyway (according to the Interamerican Development Bank, 85% of youth in Peru do not have enough education to obtain a well-paid job), means that undernourished children have very little hope of attaining the skills they need to be successful in life. As a volunteer working on this multi-faceted project, you can help implement a school lunch program to increase students’ nutritional intake, and design and carry out multiple initiatives to promote awareness about nutrition amongst students’ parents.
