The Project

• Began in April 2009 in Urubamba
• Carried out by NeVo, with support from the Municipality of Urubamba
• Environmental awareness and protection initiative designed to combat the destruction of Peru’s valuable natural environment and to create healthier, sustainable lifestyles for the people of Urubamba

Progress

• Organized Municipal Environmental Committee
• Organized an environmentally-oriented theater group
• Organized an Ecology Club that has carried out informational sessions on how to care for the environment
• Trained personnel for public cleaning

Goals

• Promote civil awareness and dialogue about the environment and promote a sense of citizen participation and responsibility for the environment
• Pursue the creation of safe sewage systems and toilets in educational institutions, state facilities, markets, etc.
• Collaborate with public health entities to improve the quality of life in Urubamba
• Carry out research that promotes biodiversity, analyzes socio-environmental conflicts, and combats deforestation in the community

Open Positions

• Three communications and coordination specialists to promote, organize, and carry out environmental awareness events and campaigns
• Three legal interns to help with the development of declarations and policies regarding environmental protection
• Three supervising collaborators to help with supervision of public services and corporate compliance with environmental norms and reporting
